FAQ – Ft Lauderdale Acupuncture

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

The answer is sometimes. In general, most acupuncture points on most patients do not hurt; one or two points will be more sensitive.

Does Insurance or Medicare Pay for Acupuncture?

Some insurance plans pay for acupuncture; PPO, or POS plans. I am not an HMO provider. Your policy would need out-of-network benefits as I am not part of any network.

How Many Sessions Does It Take to See Results?

It depends. During your first visit to my office, we will discuss your health history, medications, lab reports, and lifestyle. I will conduct the necessary physical evaluation, form a diagnosis, and treat with acupuncture therapy. Then, I will create a treatment plan. Depending on how chronic your symptoms are, treatment may last as few as six sessions. Your progress and response to treatment guide it.

What Does Acupuncture Treat?

Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine treat anything from the common cold to more chronic conditions like neck and shoulder pain. In my practice, I specialize in pain management – musculoskeletal conditions such as lower back pain, knee pain, and arthritis. I treat many conditions related to women’s health – PMS, menopause, infertility and I treat chronic conditions such as insomnia, neuropathy, allergies, etc.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing from China with approximately 10,000 years of theory and practice. The ancients discovered the 12 energy meridians of the body related to the 12 internal organs and based their diagnosis and treatment upon how the patient presented. Today, acupuncturists do several diagnostic evaluations based on a patient’s pulse, tongue, facial presentation, voice, and overall physical presentation. The energy pathways the ancient mapped are then used to treat the imbalances and bring the patient into homeostasis.
